Job Description

We’re looking for an experienced LGV/HGV Fleet Mechanic to join a well-established organisation on a temporary basis. You’ll carry out maintenance, repairs, and diagnostics on a wide range of vehicles and equipment across multiple sites. The role includes responding to breakdowns, performing routine servicing, and identifying faults to keep the fleet safe, compliant, and running smoothly.

In the HGV Fleet Mechanic role, you will be:

  • Responding promptly to vehicle breakdowns and carry out repairs across Conwy County on a 24-hour shift/call-out rota, including roadside recovery.
  • Performing routine servicing, preventative maintenance, and repairs on fleet vehicles, plant, and equipment in line with manufacturers’ guidelines and legislative requirements.
  • Carrying out vehicle inspections and MOT preparation; use diagnostic tools to identify and resolve faults, including electric vehicle systems.
  • Order, fit, and test parts to ensure all vehicles and equipment remain roadworthy and compliant.
  • Maintaining accurate records via electronic systems, ensuring adherence to health and safety standards and workshop cleanliness.
  • Liaising with Fleet Management to optimise operations; provide technical advice, support apprentices, and uphold site security protocols.

To be considered for the HGV Fleet Mechanic role, you will need:

  • Level 3 qualification in Maintenance, Repair, Testing, and Inspection of HGVs.
  • At least 12 months’ post-qualification experience inspecting and testing LGVs/HGVs.
  • Valid CPC and digital tachograph card (or willingness to obtain within 12 months).
  • Experience using diagnostic and electrical testing equipment.
  • Ability to supervise apprentices or commitment to developing those skills.
  • Knowledge of PUWER and LOLER regulations in relation to fleet maintenance.
  • Ability to safely assess and repair Electric Vehicles or willingness to train in this area.
  • Knowledge and application of relevant Health & Safety legislation.

This is a full-time temporary position, expected to last approximately 16 weeks, with a pay rate of £16.37 per hour. Based near the Mochdre depot, you’ll support the team in maintaining a safe and roadworthy fleet. The role operates on a rotating shift pattern of 7:00am–3:00pm and 11:00am–7:00pm, Monday to Friday.
