Blind Veterans UK believes that no one who has served our country should have to battle blindness alone. We offer blind veterans access to the highest quality of services to help them discover life beyond sight loss. We are now recruiting a Community Support Worker to join the team to support members throughout Scotland.

The number of veterans we help is increasing rapidly as we implement our overall strategy to embed a national footprint and take our exceptional services to the beneficiary. To enable us to deliver these services, we are expanding our community teams and are looking for skilled and experienced individuals to provide on-going assessment and support to our beneficiaries in their homes and communities. 

In the Community Support Worker job in Scotland you will be assessing need for advice and information, rehabilitation and training, care support and financial assistance. You will also work in conjunction with statutory and voluntary agencies to help our members (service users) maximise their independence. This role will also involve creating and maintaining community events and opportunities for rehabilitation. It is an autonomous role but you will be an integral member of a wider team.

For the Community Support Worker job in Scotland we are looking for committed and resourceful individuals who will follow a rigorous case management process and adhere to safeguarding and risk management procedures, keeping a positive attitude and demonstrating a collaborative, resourceful and confidential approach.

The ideal applicant for the Community Support Worker job in Scotland will have:

  • previous experience in a similar role
  • excellent organisational and communication skills
  • experience of using case management system to record interventions
  • a good understanding of how to maintain professional relationships with our members
  • effective IT skills (essential) including a good working knowledge of the MS Office suite and experience of using databases

This is a home based (with travel across Scotland), full time (35 hrs/week), permanent position with a salary of £28,704/year. Benefits include free life assurance, sickness benefit scheme, childcare voucher scheme and Employee Assistance Program, and a generous pension scheme. This role will be subject to enhanced disclosure from the Disclosure and Barring Service.
